‘Doll House’ ideas still resonate

“A Doll’s House” and “Hamlet” are this spring’s Repertory Project lineup.  Starting with the debut of “A Doll’s House” on March 18, the two plays will alternate performances for three weekends.

Staying true to the script

Lenny Leibowitz, assistant professor of theatre, has directed many plays at USI, but there is one play that he has never gotten the chance to direct: Shakespeare’s Hamlet. On March 20 Leibowitz gets that chance, though it almost never happened. “I originally was thinking of some other plays, but the reason I chose Hamlet was because there was so many talented people who showed up at the audition,” Leibowitz said.

Stuff to do in Evansville

Spring break could not have come fast enough. As you are snagging this paper from the shelf, it is either Thursday or Friday just before classes close for the week, giving students across campus plenty of time to forget what they’ve learned in the past half-semester.

Have some great photos of life on campus to share? The Shield will display them in a slide show here in the Student Life section. Send your pictures to shieldpix@gmail.com.

Only appropriate pictures will be used.

It will be two years this June since he first saw her in Germany. “When I met her, she asked me what I wanted in life,” Freshman Juan Quiroz said. “I wanted to study in America to play tennis and she really wanted that too.” This fall, Quiroz and his girlfriend Ellena Stumpf, also a freshman, got exactly what they wanted.

The Screaming Eagles women's basketball team (22-8,13-5 GLVC) was eliminated from the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament on Sunday after falling to the Lewis University Flyers (18-11,12-6) by a score of 54-56. “You want to handle success like you handle failure,” Stein said.

Managing their futures

Opinion

An unfair definition of ‘couple’

This February, the Recreation, Fitness and Wellness Center at USI had an exclusive co-ed couples competition to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The one issue with this romantic prize winning event is its defining of a couple as one man and one woman.

Some cuts raise questions

I'm more than certain that there are many men and women that have been working endlessly and thinking of a myriad of methods to help handle the recent budget cut that USI has suffered. I know that these individuals are spending hours on end trying to find places to cut back, and to not harm or financially injure any of USI's students, staff or faculty.

Why USI should stay ‘dry’

Even though USI is a dry campus, alcohol use is rampant. In my opinion, alcohol should not be such a big part of college life, and in response to last week’s opinion that campus should not remain “dry,” I respectfully disagree.     In several of my classes, drinking has been joked about and sometimes even encouraged.

Poll Question

Do you think homosexual couples should be allowed to compete together in co-ed "couples" events?

Losing my faith in humanity... one college student at a time.

Hats are neat. I am a huge football fan. I can usually be found sporting a Michigan Wolverines hat. I enjoy seeing others in hats. I like watching their hats traverse campus, bopping up and down. I like to size hat wearers up by their hats. All white? Frat boy. Full story
