USICR Executive Chairman Tony Howard and Financial Chairman Jacob Stockoff take part in a "TEA party protest" on Wednesday under the UC Bridge.

Although they lacked feather headdresses and barrels of tea, members of the USI College Republicans revisited 1773 Wednesday when they took part in the nationwide “TEA party” protests against government spending.

Executive Chairman of the College Republicans Tony Howard said the protest – which coincides with United States Tax Day – symbolized the need to “dump the IRS in every dumpster in Evansville.”

“Our twist is not only do we disagree with the IRS, but also the Federal Reserve,” Howard said. “We think it’s unconstitutional.”

The nationwide TEA, or "Taxed Enough Already" protests – which also are taking place in Evansville, Henderson, Chicago, Boston and several other locations – are a reaction to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, or the “bailouts.”

Howard said the government flooding the market with money only depreciates the value of the dollar and could lead to massive inflation.

Howard and USICR Financial Chairman Jacob Stockoff said several students stopped by their table to ask questions or accepted a flyer depicting Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke branded with an “audit” stamp.

The flyer – an official Rep. Ron Paul hand out – advertised the United States House Republican bill HR 1207, which calls for audits of the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors.

The bottom of the flyer is emblazoned with the phrase “the last official act of any government is to loot the country.”

“Quite a few people stopped and asked what was going on,” Stockoff said. “Some (students) don’t even know it’s tax day.”

Howard said he and other USICR members would attend a city TEA party Wednesday night near the Civic Center.

According to USICR External Vice Chairman Joe Giannini, over 700 similar protests took place across the country.

They aren't getting anything done with trillions of dollars.

Go ahead, take away our taxes. I'll laugh when you then expect the government to get anything done without any money.

Regarding the event being a non "Republican" issue, I feel its quite the contrary. In fact, Thomas Jefferson, a true Republican, was vehemently against Central Banking and Fiat Currency. Also the fact that Congressman Ron Paul introduced HR 1207 which calls for the FED to be audited, is quite surprising that republican, democrats and independents, have co-sponosored the bill. It is fair to say that these kinds of issues shouldnt be hijacked by the two party system, that is why this issue is purely a WE THE PEOPLE issue and for College Republicans, to come out and say they believe the FED is unconsitutional is a step forward for the party, because for the last 8 years it was hijacked by Neoconservatives like Bush, who was a puppet for the Federal Reserve and the NWO

None of these issues qualify as "Republican" issues, and labeling them as such only opens the door for partisan criticism in what are undeniably non-partisan issues. Passage of any legislation that would severely hamper the federal government's ability to continue "business as usual" will require broad NON-PARTISAN support (the term "bi-partisan" is an insult - there are more than 2 parties)

These need to be issues for the masses, not issues for the Republicans to get back at the Democrats that inherited the current mess. The powers that be rely on the political polarization of society to prevent these types of changes from happening.

We need to retrain ourselves to be non-partisan - again, these are not "Republican" issues.

Way to go Jake! I am proud of you and your fellow College Republicans for taking a stance and educating the masses! I can't think of anything worse than being uninformed. Keep up the great work and continue to make NA proud!
