Every year, colleges all around Indiana get something that USI doesn’t: a mysterious mini vacation known as Fall Break.
The Faculty Senate has been debating whether or not to give USI students a Fall Break, but they want to know what the students think.
Well, I’m a student, and I say yes!
Earlier this fall, I remember when the other colleges went on Fall Break and we were still in session.
It would have been so nice to have a little bit of a break from classes – especially as an incoming freshman, still trying to adjust to college life. So what are the drawbacks here?
Implementing a Fall Break would cause school to begin two days earlier at the end of summer. Personally, I don’t see that as such a bad trade for a couple days later on.
And as far as trying to decide whether to have break in October or to tack it on to Thanksgiving break, I say have it in October. As I said before, this would help freshman students cope with their new college life.
It is a major adjustment coming from high school and into university life, and a small break after the first month would provide a breather that, at least for me, was needed.
Other colleges around Indiana have a fall break. It’s more than just a couple days off of school.
It may be all that someone would need in order to take a step back from classes and regroup before they get back into the swing of things for the following week.
