The band DeafMegan plays at RiRa’s Irish Pub on Oct 24. Members Cory Seib, Samuel Rice, Justin Waddington, Jordan Wilis and Riley Fugate (L to R) will hopefully finish recording the their second cd by the end of the year. DeafMegan regularly plays at RiRa’s in downtown Evansville at 10:30 p.m. on Fridays.

What started out as a solo project led to the formation of an up and coming band.

DeafMegan’s lead vocalist, Justin Waddington “originally set out to record a solo CD based off my original songs, but I wanted a backing band.”

He enlisted the help of friends Samuel Rice (bass), Riley Fugate (trumpet), Cory Seib (keyboards) and Jordan Willis (drums).

“He was going to feature his friends but we ended up making a CD and turned it into a band” says Fugate.

DeafMegan found their name in an episode of the television show “Weeds”. A character is consistently referred to as deafmegan, a clip of the show can be found on their my space page.

DeafMegan has played a variety of venues and events including Debate-A-Palooza, Ri Ra Irish Pub and Boney Junes.

The band also competed in Boney Junes first Battle of the Bands contest where they received second place.

The band also recorded their first album titled “LSD EP” in 2007.  The CD features original songs such as “Changes” and “Brace Yourself”.

Deafmegan’s singles “Nothing” and “Burn” have received airtime form USI’s radio station 820 AM, The Edge.

DeafMegan is currently back in the studio working on their second album, which they hope to finish by the end of the year.

“This album is Deafmegan’s own, everyone pitched something in on it and brings their own feel/part to it.” said Fugate.

In addition to playing their own original songs, the guys also enjoy playing a variety of cover songs.

“We have pretty straight forward lyrics, stuff a lot of people can relate to, very honest,” said Rice.

When asked where the band gets their inspiration from, Justin listed genres ranging from country to rap.

Waddington also described the sound as “It’s not too hard, not too soft, not too poppy, not too…anything really.”
