Fun Hogs

By Anthony Pate

The Fun Hogs perform at Lanhuck’s Punk Rock Night on September 21. The next punk Rock Night is October 5 at 8 p.m. at Lanhuck’s on Columbia Street.

Punk rock has met science fiction and the result is the Fun Hogs.

With songs such as “Hooked on Vonnegut” and “Star Wars Money", this newly formed band has branched out from the standard broke and lonely lyrics to declare admiration for Kurt Vonnegut Jr. and a lust for George Lucas's money on their first album 'Party!'.

Guitarist and USI junior Ryan “Yea Dude” Dunn freely admits, “The reason we made the cd is that our friends are getting on punk labels and touring and we want to do that also."

“We all were in heavy punk bands before and want to have more of a pop sound now”, says Dunn.

Dunn, who learned guitar from his brother, cites the Ramones, Marked Men, Clash and a fellow local band called My Doppelganger as influences for the Fun Hogs.

The Fun Hogs consist of three members of the former Mescalitos band (Dunn, guitarist Andy “Dinker” Phillips, and drummer Josh “Lord Burns” Burns); the newest member is the bassist and singer Timmy “Holiday” Denton.

The band recorded their album 'Party!' last month with Mark Meat and have copies available for $3.

October 5th will be Punk rock Night at Lanhuck's on Columbia Street and the Fun Hogs will be there.
