By JIMMY PYLESThe first guest in The Shield’s Cone Concert series is USI English major Travis Thompson.  Thompson, an Evansville native, learned to play guitar from his grandpa at age 12 and hasn’t stopped playing since.

From lead vocalist in the power pop band Stereo Shout Out to his venture into acoustic folk, Thompson isn’t afraid to stretch his talents and experiment with a wide variety of music. Influenced by artists like Bob Dylan, Noah Gundersen and Justin Townes Earle, Thompson gives his take on the genre focusing on lyrical stories with a message. Thompson kicked off the Cone Concert series on Feb. 25 performing his newest original songs.
